Sai.ke: A Haegtessa’s Journey of the Crone

Once upon a time, there was a haegtessa who saw life with elucidation by her own thoughts. Her luminosity hugged the oneness of body and soul.

It was her way of being.

But.

She had not always been of that knowing. A mask of her own making covered her face. It was hidden for different reasons. She was of all rebirth and secrets and intuitions.

… and she had more to learn.

Sai.ke looking up at the Star. Art by San (Suzanne T Hartman)

Sai.ke was not a fool. It may have seemed foolish to leave home but she was tired and had lost too much to stay. Her left ring finger still bled.

Closing her hand around the center of her chest at her thymus, a tiny iridescent egg moved deep within her. The worrisome noise of everything woke up the dear egg and with Sai.ke’s gentle touch, they found solace.

It was tucked deep inside the two folds of her thymus above her heart and under the butterfly thyroid.

Mist followed Sai.ke and Moonkip’s footsteps into the cave and slowly dissipated into the dark corners bringing comfort to all within the enclosure. Smoke from her pipe circled her head in spiraling, hissing whispers of ancient tales from their home.

Once upon a time, long ago, Sai.ke had swam in a distant ocean, within a red star. She had raced with the sea monsters. She had breathed the salty water. This is where she and Moonkip first became friends.

Her wings, large and black, consisted of small, glittering, star tetrahedrons all connected like lace. Like tree branches in Winter. Tiny merkabas of flight and transience.

Sai.ke has cast her Self off. She is safe for now in the Mountains during Autumn. The year is now. Sai.ke is nonverbal and neurodiverse. Her story is the archetypal journey of a woman in her mid-years heading to her elder years, which some call the crone era. The major arcana begins with the fool and ends with the world but Sai.ke’s tale is her own. I will illustrate each card and write a story for each archetype and key. Sai.ke is pronounced “psyche” which means breath of soul. I have a lot to work out, but it feels good to be finished with the first four chapters out of thirty-three. I will be reading each chapter on my podcast/YouTube channel once I am done with the accompanying art.

(I really do have a lot of revisions to do with this story. Especially cleaning up the cliches. It will be stronger than what I have quoted here. Also, the illustration above is not finished but it is a good start. Thank you!)
